"The more I live, the more I respect Novak Djokovic";"Truly a good-hearted man" - Serb helping out compatriot Medjedovic financially delights fans

Novak Djokovic has been helping rising ATP star and compatriot Hamad Medjedovic with all the expenses required to build the latter’s tennis career. This has drawn appreciative reactions from tennis fans.

The 20-year-old Serbian player has performed quite well in his previous couple of tournaments. He won the title at the Mallorca Challenger last month and made it to the semifinals of the Astana Open earlier this month, where he lost to Sebastian Korda in three sets.

However, in his most recent appearances at Antwerp and Basel, the World No. 102 was knocked out in the first round of qualifying.

Hamad Medjedovic, in a recent interview with Sportal, expressed his gratitude towards 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. He was extremely thankful towards the World No. 1 for covering him financially in his tennis career.

“Novak Djokovic has been helping me out financially. Giving me whatever I need for my career. He covered it all. He just helped me out when I needed it and is still helping me out in all types of ways. I’m glad he’s there for me," he said.

Medjedovic also mentioned that Novak Djokovic was the first person to wish him on his Mallorca victory.

“Would you believe who was the first to congratulate me on my title – Novak. When I picked up my phone, I saw his voice message lasting more than one minute. He is a legend because he is always available for advice," he stated.

Upon learning about this, tennis fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their appreciation for Nole. A fan who wasn't a big Djokovic supporter called the Serb's selfless act "awesome".

“This is awesome. You know, I never was the biggest Djokovic fan but I have to say, but he is truly is a good hearted man. We all live under this assumption that we truly know these tennis legends we’ve been following for 20 years, but we really don’t. Love this,” they tweeted.

Another tennis fan commented that their respect towards Djokovic will grow by the day.

"I feel like the more I live, the more I will respect Novak," they said.

Yet another fan blessed Novak Djokovic for helping his countryman in every possible way.

“God bless you Novak,” they posted.

Djokovic spoke about Medjedovic at Wimbledon earlier this year. The Serb was outclassed by Carlos Alcaraz 6-1, 6-7 (6), 1-6, 6-3, 4-6 at this year’s grass court major.

Applauding Hamad Medjedovic on his remarkable achievement, Djokovic said:

“It was phenomenal – winning his first Challenger title coming from qualies is a huge result & I congratulated him… His jump in the rankings (Medjedovic was #259 in the world at the time) will mean a lot for the future. I have a lot of friends who are sort of stuck in that second tier of tennis – between Futures and 250s – it is hard to break through, but Hamad is now close to playing qualifiers for Grand Slam tournaments.”
