"They see me as the older brother, not the famous tennis player who has won Slams" - Carlos Alcaraz on his relationship dynamics with his brothers

Carlos Alcaraz recently talked about his relationship with his brothers. The World No.3 has three siblings: an older brother named Alvaro, and two younger brothers named Sergio and Jaime.

Alcaraz is having a brilliant 2024 season. He has already won two Grand Slam titles, his first one of the year coming at the 2024 French Open where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final.

Most recently, the Spaniard successfully defended his Wimbledon Championships title by defeating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) in the final. This victory marked his second grasscourt Major title, his second Grand Slam title of the season, and his fourth Grand Slam title overall.

During an interview with ABC Sports, Carlos Alcaraz opened up about his relationship with his three brothers, Alvaro, Sergio, and Jaime. The former World No.1 shared that his brothers take pride in watching him play and said that they feel as if his achievements are also theirs.

Alcaraz revealed that his younger brothers, Sergio and Jaime, see him simply as an older brother who looks out for them, rather than a famous tennis player with multiple Grand Slam victories to his name.

"I think they enjoy watching me. They feel my achievements are theirs . They support me every day . They see me as the older brother, not as the famous tennis player who has been number 1 or who has won Grand Slams, but as the older brother who has to take care of them," Alcaraz said (translated from Spanish).

When speaking about his older brother Alvaro, Carlos Alcaraz expressed gratitude for the love and support he receives from him. He stated that what he values most about his siblings is their ability to see him not as a famous athlete, but as the brother and person he has always been.

"And Álvaro sees me as the little brother that I am. That is nice and that is what I want from them, that they do not see me as the tennis player but as the person and the brother that I always am," he added.

Alcaraz admitted that his favorite part of post-tournament life is returning home and spending time with his loved ones.

"Being at home, calm, with my people. Without doing much, because at home I enjoy not doing big things, but doing the simplest and most natural things. That's what characterizes me and what I enjoy the most . That's what I miss the most," Carlos Alcaraz said.

Last month, while speaking with The Sunday Times, Carlos Alcaraz shared that regardless of the outcome, whether he wins or loses, his main priority is returning to his family.

The Spaniard stated that his parents, mother, Virginia Garfia Escandon, father Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, and his brothers, Alvaro, Sergio and Jaime always treat him the same and do not place him on a pedestal due to his success as a tennis player.

“When I finish a tournament, it doesn’t matter if I win or not, I just want to get home to be with my family. I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers . To them I am not a big tennis star, just a normal guy,” Carlos Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz said that while he loves playing tennis, he values his role as an older brother and having a positive influence on his younger siblings even more

“I love tennis but I love even more being the older brother of my little ones. Being the role model for them, not as a tennis player but a person. That is the most important thing — to help them learn about the things that matter in life,” he added .

Looking ahead, Carlos Alcaraz will next compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He along with Rafael Nadal, Pedro Martinez, Jaume Munar, Pablo Carreno Busta, Marcel Granollers, Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo will represent Spain in tennis at the Games.
