"Un-freaking-real" - Sebastian Korda's sisters Nelly Korda & Jessica Korda share their delight after American's Citi Open title triumph
Sebastian Korda's sisters Nelly and Jessica expressed their joy over his triumph at the 2024 Citi Open. Both sisters are renowned golfers, with Jessica holding the No. 1 spot in the world rankings.
The 24-year-old Sebastian Korda faced a tough challenge from Italy's Flavio Cobolli in the first set of the final, losing 4-6. However, he rallied strongly, winning the next two sets 6-2 and 6-0 to claim the title at the FitzGerald Tennis Center on Sunday. Notably, his victory came 32 years after his father, Petr Korda, won the same tournament in 1992.
Korda's sisters recently celebrated his triumph on Instagram. Both golfers added glimpses of the final and the trophy ceremony to their stories, captioning them with their reactions.
Nelly Korda wrote in her story:

With this victory, Sebastian Korda became the first American to win the ATP 500 event in Washington since Andy Roddick who won the title in 2007. Moreover, Korda also reached his career-best ATP ranking of No. 18 after the win.

Sebastian Korda had an impressive campaign at the ATP 500 event in Washington. He defeated Cristian Garín, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Jordan Thompson, and Frances Tiafoe before overcoming Flavio Cobolli in the final.
Following his Citi Open triumph, Korda recalled how his father used to train his current coach, former World No. 8 Radek Stepanek, when he was a teenager.
“I’ve been coming to this tournament since I was a teenager. My dad used to coach Radek Stepanek, who also won here in 2011,” Korda told the media (via The Independent).
The American revealed a personal connection to the Citi Open, calling his victory "the most special moment" of his career.
“We have a lot of history with this tournament. One of my biggest goals was one day coming here and hopefully winning the tournament and putting my name up there on the stadium. This is probably the most special moment of my career so far,” he added.
Korda's next match is against Canada's Vasek Pospisil at the National Bank Open. The 24-year-old will aim to build momentum ahead of the 2024 US Open, which has not seen an American champion since Andy Roddick won it in 2003.
