Iga Swiatek's partnership with Lancome was at the center of controversy at French Open 2024
Earlier this month, Iga Swiatek won her fourth French Open title and third consecutive title at Roland Garros by defeating Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in the final.
However, Swiatek's partnership with Lancome was at the center of controversy when John McEnroe criticized the Pole for not wearing makeup despite being sponsored by the French luxury perfumes and cosmetics brand.
McEnroe suggested that Lancome should increase Swiatek's compensation so she would wear makeup while competing or winning titles.
"You think if they offer her enough, Lancome, maybe she (Iga Swiatek) would consider throwing on a little makeup for the right price?" McEnroe said.
The tennis community strongly condemned John McEnroe comments addressing Iga Swiatek, which they deemed were highly misogynistic. The Pole won her third successive title at the French Open by defeating Jasmine Paolini in the final.
She now has 45 out of 49 matches so far in the 2024 season, with five titles to her name. Apart from the French Open, she has also won four WTA 1000 titles.
Swiatek is next scheduled to compete at Wimbledon, which has been her least successful Grand Slam so far. The Pole reached the quarterfinals of the London Major in 2023, where she lost to Elina Svitolina.
