"Up to us to make our voices heard" - Andy Roddick dons pink to champion women's rights, urges fans to vote as US presidential election draws near
Former US Open champion Andy Roddick recently used his platform to encourage people to vote. With the US Presidential elections drawing closer, the 42f-year-old urged his fans to ‘make their voice heard’ and ‘create the future all women deserve’.
Roddick is one of America's most accomplished men's singles players in recent times, having won the 2003 US Open, alongside appearances in four other Major finals. The 42-year-old had also reached a career-high ranking of World No.1 in 2003 after an incredible season.
The former tennis star called time on his singles playing career in 2012 but has since then continued to take on various projects, including the Andy Roddick Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides lower-income students with better opportunities.
Roddick has also been vocal about politics in the US, and he recently encouraged fans to vote at the upcoming presidential elections, writing on X:
“Election Day is less than 40 days away, and voting is the moment. The women who came before us fought for our right to vote, and it’s up to us to make our voices heard. I’m proud to partner with @Argent and @WhenWeAllVote’s #VotingSuitsYou campaign."
“We’re dressed in pink as a bold expression of our joy and our power—and we’re bringing this energy with us to the polls this year. So, check your voter registration, make a plan—join us in pink!—AND VOTE. Because when we all vote, we create the future all women deserve," he added.
Andy Roddick reacts to Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert felicitating the winner of the WTA’s American Cancer fellowship
Recently, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert made an appearance at the MD Anderson Cancer center in Houston Texas to felicitate Rachel Dittmar on winning the WTA funded American Cancer fellowship. An X user shared a video of the two players in Houston, writing,
“Two tennis legends Martina Navratilova & Chris Evert visited our research building at @MDAndersonNews last week to discuss the importance of cancer research & felicitate Rachel L. Dittmar on winning the @AmericanCancer fellowship funded by @WTA. Congratulations Rachel!”
Andy Roddick was impressed with the news, reposting the video and stating:
“Amazing.”
Roddick has previously opened up about dealing with cancer himself. Earlier this year, the tennis star revealed that he'd dealt with ‘various types of skin cancer’ since he retired, even having a squamous cell tumor taken out of his lip five or six years ago.
