"Upgraded from a bum to a stylish bum": Naomi Osaka jokes about Louis Vuitton bag 'paying off' after arriving in London amid flight cancellation drama
Naomi Osaka has hilariously joked about being recognized at Heathrow Airport for her Louis Vuitton bag. The former World No. 1 made her way to the airport after her original flight was canceled.
Osaka, who has been handed a wild card entry into the main draw of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, was initially scheduled to reach England earlier for the Rothesay International in Eastbourne. However, a change in plans led to the Japanese withdrawing from the WTA 500 event. Her next outing is set to directly come at Wimbledon, where she has never managed to go beyond the third round.
The four-time Grand Slam winner's trip to England got off to a rocky start when she apparently spent a long time at the airport, only to eventually find out that her flight was canceled. Osaka took to Instagram to share her plight, writing sarcastically:
"Don't you love it when you spend most of the day at the airport and then your flight gets canceled?"
However, as it turned out, she did manage to make it to London's main international airport on a rescheduled flight. Once again, Osaka shared her experience on Instagram.
This time around though, her post was quite hilarious as she detailed how the Louis Vuitton bag she was carrying helped her get recognized at Heathrow Airport. The former World No. 1 additionally reflected on how the bag has aided her evolution "from a bum to a stylish bum at airports".
"Someone recognized me at the airport because I had that sh** on. Ngl I upgraded from a bum to a stylish bum at airports and I'm so proud it's paying off," Osaka wrote on her Instagram Story.
Naomi Osaka poked fun at herself over her fashion choices last year
In December 2023, Naomi Osaka made fun of herself on X (formerly Twitter) over what she chose to wear outside. Through her humorous post, she told people not to take her too seriously when she looks like a "bum" because of her unconventional fashion choices.
"If you see me outside dressed like a bum just know it doesn’t count cause I wasn’t trying," Osaka wrote.
Earlier that month, though, Osaka oozed confidence as she flaunted a baggy look paired with a Louis Vuitton bag. The Japanese showed off her look on Instagram with the caption:
"The drippiest tennis player you ever did see, that’s me"
From a purely tennis perspective, Naomi Osaka has looked close to being back at her best in recent months. At the 2024 French Open, the Japanese was rather unfortunate to be ousted by eventual champion Iga Swiatek in the second round, despite having a match point opportunity in the third and deciding set.
