US Open 2024 draw: Where can Coco Gauff and Danielle Collins meet at Flushing Meadows this year?

Defending champion Coco Gauff will be one of the favorites to win the US Open title this year. As the draw came out on Thursday, it seemed possible that there might be an All-American clash in the final if 11th-seeded Danielle Collins can make her way to the summit fixture against Gauff.

Gauff will begin her campaign against Varvara Gracehva of France in the first round, followed by a potential face-off against Tatjana Maria of Germany. These two matches should not be difficult for the third seed to win. She will face a difficult task in a potential match with 27th-seeded Elina Svitolina in the third round. Either Emma Navarro or Marta Kostyuk will be the probable fourth-round opponents for the defending champion.

Gauff will look to avenge her Wimbledon loss against Navarro should the pair meet again at the US Open. Navarro had a dominant win over the World No. 3 at SW-19, and the 20-year-old American's performances have faltered ever since. Gauff will most likely face two-time Major champion Barbora Krejcikova in the quarter-final, followed by a potential blockbuster semi-final clash against second seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Danielle Collins will start her campaign against compatriot Caroline Dolehide at the 2024 US Open. The eleventh seed might face former Grand Slam finalist Sara Errani in the second round. Collins might potentially face 18-seeded Diana Shnaider in the third round.

The fourth round might be another All-American affair as Collins might face sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula. The head-to-head is skewed, as Pegula leads 5-0. There is another possibility of skewed head-to-head for the World No. 11 as she might face the top seed Iga Swiatek in the quarter-final. The Pole has a 7-1 lead over the American in the head-to-head.

There is a prospect of fireworks if the quarter-final against Swiatek does happen as Collins and the World No. 1 had a verbal to and fro after the duo's quarter-final clash at the Paris Olympics. Collins will most likely face fourth seed Elena Rybakina in the semi-final. Although Collins trails 2-3 in the head-to-head against the World No. 4, she defeated her in the Miami Open final this year.

Surprisingly, despite being in the sport's top echelon in the last few years, Danielle Collins and Coco Gauff have yet to play against each other. The third seed has a 57-19 record at Grand Slam matches with two Major finals and a title at the US Open last year. Collins has a 39-27 record at the Majors, reaching the final of the 2022 Australian Open as her best result.

As for the US Open, Gauff has a 14-4 record, whereas Collins has an abysmal record of 7-8. A run to the fourth round remains Collin's best result in New York, where she lost against Aryna Sabalenka in three sets.

Given how the draw has panned out, it seems difficult for Gauff and Collins to have their first match at the US Open, especially after the opponents that Collins potentially has to face.
