US Open 2024: Who are the women's singles seeds? ft. Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff
Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka are the top two seeds in the women's singles discipline at the US Open 2024. The season's final Major will begin from August 26, and the main draw will be revealed on Thursday, August 22.
Swiatek triumphed in New York in 2022, and bowed out in the fourth round of her title defence last year. Sabalenka reached the final last year after two previous semifinal finishes, and lost to Coco Gauff.
Gauff will be the third seed this time, and was pipped by Sabalenka for the second seed spot as the latter won the Cincinnati Open, while she bowed out in the second round. This could lead to her bumping into Swiatek in the semifinals, against whom she has a lopsided 1-11 losing record.
Elena Rybakina is up next as the fourth seed. She returned to the tour after a bout of illness at the Cincinnati Open, and was knocked out in the second round. She has a 4-5 record at the US Open, and hasn't been beyond the third round.
Jasmine Paolini, the runner-up at the French Open and Wimbledon this year, is seeded fifth, followed by Jessica Pegula as the sixth seed. The American won the Canadian Open a couple of weeks ago, and finished as the runner-up to Sabalenka at the Cincinnati Open.
Zheng Qinwen, who won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, is seeded seventh, followed by reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova as the eighth seed. Maria Sakkari and Jelena Ostapenko are seeded ninth and tenth, respectively.
Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro, and Madison Keys among the other American players to be seeded at the US Open
Aside from Gauff and Pegula, three more American women are seeded at this year's US Open. Danielle Collins, who will contest the tournament for the final time, is seeded 11th. Emma Navarro, whose career has been on the upswing this year, is the 13th seed.
Madison Keys, who reached the US Open final back in 2017, is seeded 14th. Ons Jabeur, the runner-up in New York two years ago, is seeded 17th. Victoria Azarenka has reached the final here on three occasions in the past, and is the 20th seed this year.
Paula Badosa's good run of form in recent weeks has enabled her to snag a seeded position at a Major for the first time this year. The Spaniard is seeded 26th, and is followed by another big name, Elina Svitolina as the 27th seed. Dayana Yastremska, who reached the Australian Open semifinals this year, is seeded 32nd.
