US Open 2024: Women's singles draw, schedule, players, prize money breakdown and more

The 2024 US Open is the next Major stop on the tennis tour this year. The top players on the women's circuit will battle it out for the prestigious crown in New York, with 2000 points on offer in the WTA rankings.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek missed out on a Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics last month, but has still been outstanding on the women's tour this year. She captured her fourth title at the French Open and also claimed the honours in Indian Wells, Rome and Madrid.

Her near rival Aryna Sabalenka has had a season filled with ups and downs so far. She successfully defended her title in the Australian Open, but struggled to make a significant impact on clay and grass. The Belarusian looks to mean business at the US Open with a recent title-triumph in Cincinnati.

The American contingent of Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro and Danielle Collins have all been in the mix at important events this year. While Gauff defended her title at the ASB Classic, Pegula earned the bragging rights in Toronto and Collins silenced her critics in Miami.

Let's take a look at what the 2024 US Open has to offer.

What is the US Open?

The US Open is one of the four Major tournaments on the WTA tour. It is the last Grand Slam of the year and is played on acrylic hard courts. The first edition of the event was held in 1881.

Venue

The US Open will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York City.

Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka will be the top two seeds at the US Open. She will begin her campaign against a qualifier and hope to make a strong start in New York.

Defending champion Coco Gauff will be the third seed at the event and will begin her campaign against Varvara Gracheva. She leads the head-to-head against the Russian 1-0 and defeated her most recently in Auckland this year.

Some exciting first round encounters in New York will include former champion Naomi Osaka taking on Jelena Ostapenko and Emma Raducanu locking horns with Sofia Kenin. Kazakh No. 1 Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Donna Vekic and Katie Boulter will all begin their campaign against a qualifier.
