Watch: Andy Murray and Gael Monfils have fun reunion during practice ahead of Indian Wells 2023

Andy Murray and Gael Monfils had a nice little reunion during practice ahead of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. The two players have arrived in the Californian desert to participate in the year's first ATP 1000 event.

Following a run to the finals at the Qatar Open, Andy Murray chose to withdraw from the Dubai Championships in order to maintain his fitness for the Sunshine Double. Gael Monfils, meanwhile, is coming off an injury-riddled 2022 season, where he was able to compete in just eight tournaments.

The Frenchman chose to skip the 2023 Australian Open in order to be able to utilize his protected ranking for the upcoming French Open. He will make his season debut at the Indian Wells Masters.

With the main draw matches set to begin on Wednesday, March 8, Gael Monfils and Andy Murray ran into each other during their practice sessions. In the fun clip below, Monfils can be seen going up to Murray and exchanging pleasantries.

"I want to run towards you because you're doing your running," Monfils said.

Andy Murray has won every single hardcourt Masters 1000 event on the calendar except the Indian Wells Masters. His best result at the tournament came in 2009, where he finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal.

The former World No. 1 also reached the semifinals of the tournament in 2007 and 2015, and was defeated by Novak Djokovic on both occasions.

In 2022, Murray battled past Taro Daniel in the first round before falling to Alexander Bublik in the second. The three-time Grand Slam champion has a 28-14 record at the event.

Gael Monfils, on the other hand, reached the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters in 2016 and 2019. In 2016, he was defeated in straight sets by eventual finalist Milos Raonic, whereas in 2019 the Frenchman was forced to retire against Dominic Thiem due to an inflamed Achilles tendon.

In 2022, Monfils upset top seed Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the tournament after a straight-sets victory over Filip Krajinovic in his opening match. He lost his subsequent match to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.

Monfils has a 17-12 win-loss record at the tournament.

Andy Murray will face Tomas Etcheverry in the first round of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. The pair have never faced each other on the ATP tour before.

Gael Monfils, meanwhile, will take on Jordan Thompson for the first time in his career.
