Seven of the WTA Top 10 have made the trip to Beijing to participate in the 2024 China Open. Iga Swiatek (personal reasons), Elena Rybakina (back injury), and Danielle Collins (illness) are the only ones missing out.

The top 32 seeds at the event have received a bye in the first round including top seed Aryna Sabalenka, fifth seed Zheng Qinwen, and 15th seed Paula Badosa.

Sabalenka will face the winner of the match between Zarina Diyas and Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the second round. The Belarusian recently said she was surprised with the upgrades at the facilities of the China Open.

"When I first came, I was like, Oh, wow this looks new. It’s beautiful, kind of modern-looking. I like it. It’s kind of like a fresh feeling," Aryna Sabalenka said during a China Open press conference.

Meanwhile, home favorite and Paris Olympics gold medalist Qinwen will face the winner of the match between Kamilla Rakhimova and Kimberly Birrell in the second round. The 21-year-old said she does not consider it a "big pressure" to play at home.

"I think I don't consider that like big pressure. I will consider it like big support. Especially when I am feeling down, I see all the people's support on me," Zheng Qinwen said during a China Open press conference.

Badosa is set to take on Viktoriya Tomova in the second round of the China Open. The Bulgarian defeated Lesia Tsurenko in the first round.
