WATCH: Ben Shelton, Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro flex their New York knowledge as Carlos Alcaraz joins trio for cab-hailing quiz
Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Jessica Pegula, and Emma Navarro are in New York for the Garden Cup exhibition event. The tennis stars recently hilariously showcased how they would hail a cab in New York.
In a video shared by Tennis Channel on Instagram, the four tennis stars shared their NYC cab-hailing styles. Pegula was asked if she would whistle to which she responded:
"Can't whistle, that would not go well"
Later, she hilariously shared her style:
"Big wave, kinda jumping in the street."
Shelton claimed his style to "yell," he said:
"Imma give a yooo... I would probably just yell."
Navarro said she would put her hand out on the street "elf style." Meanwhile, Alcaraz, the only non-American, also resorted to a similar style of waving for the cabs. Watch the video below:
Carlos Alcaraz 'looking forward' to Garden Cup exhibition event with Americans Jessica Pegula, Ben Shelton, & Emma Navarro
In a recent interview with the New York Tennis magazine, Carlos Alcaraz shared his excitement about playing against Ben Shelton at the Garden Cup exhibition event.
"I am looking forward to returning to New York on December 4 to play Ben at Madison Square Garden. Playing in front of the New York fans at The World's Most Famous Arena will be an unforgettable night," Alcaraz said.
The event will also feature a women's singles match between Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro. Pegula is returning to play in New York just months after reaching her first Grand Slam final at the US Open.
"It’s so weird. It feels like I was just here," Jessica Pegula said on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s exhibition match (via the New York Post). "My coach was here with me, and he’s like, ‘Oh God, we’re back.’ … Just the stress and just everything and the chaos of those three weeks, it’s kind of funny, you feel it instantly coming back to the city."
Navarro also expressed excitement ahead of her exhibition encounter against compatriot Pegula.
"It is [cool] to come back into the city and kind of remember the experience I had at the U.S. Open," Emma Navarro said (via the New York Post). "Putting on a little bit of a show in a more relaxed atmosphere [at the Garden Cup], I think, is really exciting."
The Garden Cup will take place on Wednesday, December 4. Alcaraz will travel to North Carolina soon after to participate in another exhibition event along with Frances Tiafoe.
