WATCH: Carlos Alcaraz gets marriage proposal from fan while at ATP Finals in Turin, Spaniard hilariously turns shy and laughs it off
Carlos Alcaraz was given a marriage proposal while he was signing autographs for his fans in the streets of Turin. This happened after his second match win at the 2024 ATP Finals against Andrey Rublev.
Alcaraz, who is struggling with health issues, took on sixth seed Casper Ruud to kick off his campaign. However, his struggle with cold and discomfort in his stomach, coupled with the fact that the Norwegian came in all guns blazing, led to Ruud's scintillating 6-1, 7-5 win.
Next up, he faced Andrey Rublev, in what could have ended up being a do-or-die match. Despite not being in the pink of his health, Alcaraz, who wore a nose strip to aid his breathing, 'surprised' himself with his level to clinch a comprehensive 6-3, 7-6(8) win over the eighth seed.
Later in the day, when he was signing autographs for his fans in Turin, one of the Spaniard's big fans, who goes by the name trentotogradii on X (formerly Twitter) shared a hilarious interaction she had with the 21-year-old.
She asked Carlos Alcaraz "casate conmigo" which means marry me in Spanish. This made the Spaniard shy but he tried to laugh it off. However, she questioned him again if he had listened to her question to which Alcaraz said that he had.
"Here’s Carlos saying he heard me scream “casate conmigo” 😭😭😭😭😭 I love him soooo much, the way he bursts out laughing when I tell him," she wrote.
She also posted a selfie with Alcaraz on her social media.
Over the years, a lot of players have received marriage proposals on court including Steffi Graf, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Emma Raducanu, and others. It is worth noting that this was not the first marriage proposal Carlos Alcaraz has received.
Carlos Alcaraz beamed from ear to ear after receiving a marriage proposal from a fan during an exhibition match
During an exhibition match against Roberto Bautista Agut on December 28 last year, titled the 'Carlos Alcaraz Cup' in his hometown in Murcia, Carlos Alcaraz received a marriage proposal from one of his many fans.
""Carlitos, casate conmigo (Carlitos, marry me)," the fan yelled.
The World No. 3 couldn't help himself but let out a huge grin before continuing to play. He went on to win the exhibition match 7-6(1), 1-6, 10-7.
The Spaniard had earlier discussed in June how it was difficult to meet people as a tennis player since he was traveling all the time and said that he was single.
Moving on, Carlos Alcaraz will take on Alexander Zverev in his final group-stage match of the 2024 ATP Finals. A win wouldn't necessarily confirm the Spaniard's qualification in the next stage as his fate would also lie in the hands of Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev, who will face each other in their final group stage match.
