Carlos Alcaraz shared a heartwarming moment with the ballboy who accompanied him to his match against Tommy Paul at the 2023 Miami Open. Alcaraz asked the little boy to wave to the crowd who were present for the game.
Before his match against the American, Alcaraz was accompanied by a ballboy to the court. As the Spaniard entered, he waved to his fans who were present, which prompted the little boy to do the same.
However, the little boy became shy and stopped waving. Noticing this, Alcaraz encouraged the ballboy to wave to the crowd, which made the youngster's day and put a big smile on his face.
The heartwarming moment was recently shared by Tennis TV across their social media platforms.
The Spaniard will next take on home favorite Taylor Fritz, ranked No. 10 in the world, in the quarter-finals. This will be the first meeting between the two players.
"I want to be a part of that few players that made the Sunshine Double" - Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz wants to become the youngest and 12th player in history to achieve the coveted Sunshine Double, which entails winning both the Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments in the same year.
Earlier this month, Alcaraz claimed the title at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open without dropping a single set. Since then, he has continued his impressive form, securing three straight-set victories to reach the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
On Tuesday, March 28, the World No. 1 faced off against Tommy Paul and emerged victorious with a 6-4, 6-4 win in just one hour and 36 minutes. Alcaraz was dominant and broke his opponent twice, hitting an impressive 24 winners, compared to Paul's meager nine.
During the post-match press conference, the Spaniard was asked about his thoughts on winning the Sunshine Double. Alcaraz responded by stating that he is always focused on his next match, but it's hard not to think about the achievement.
He candidly admitted that he aspires to join the elite group of players who have won both events in the same season.
"Well, I try not to think about that but it's difficult," Carlos Alcaraz said. "You know, it's something that I really want it. I want to be a part of that few players that made the Sunshine Double. So for me, it would be great to achieve that."
"But as I said, it is something that I do not think about that, you know, and try to think about day by day, you know, match by match, and that's all I try to think about. But of course, it could be great to be part of that few, few players," added.
The 11 players whom Carlos Alcaraz wishes to join are Jim Courier, Michael Chang, Pete Sampras, Steffi Graf, Marcelo Rios, Andre Agassi, Kim Clijsters, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Victoria Azarenka, and Iga Swiatek.
