The crowd at the 2024 Shanghai Masters let out audible gasps after rivals Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas surprised everyone by posing together for the cameras ahead of their match after calling a truce. Medvedev and Tsitsipas faced off in the fourth round of the ATP 1000 Masters hard court tournament and the Russian won the match 7-6(3), 6-3.
Medvedev was seeded fifth in the tournament while Tsitsipas was seeded 10th. Due to their seedings, both players began their campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.
Medvedev defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild and Matteo Arnaldi in the second and third rounds, while Tsitsipas overcame Kei Nishikori and Alexandre Muller to reach the fourth round.
Before their highly anticipated match, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas posed for photos at the net, prompting an audible gasp from the crowd at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. The two players, known for their heated exchanges and rivalry on the court, surprised everyone with this gesture.

Ahead of their fourth-round clash, Stefanos Tsitsipas had called for a truce to their rivalry. While acknowledging their past conflicts, Tsitsipas said he had great respect for the World No. 5 and said that they had talked and resolved their issues.
"I consider him someone that I respect on the tour, much more than I did before. We've had some heated things on the court in the past, but I think those things have resolved themselves over time, and obviously we also had the time to speak about those things and have a common understanding of why these things happen," Tsitsipas said.
Tsitsipas expressed that it was important for him to resolve conflicts, claiming that tennis had helped bring peace between them.
"I always want to resolve things like that, I don't want to leave them. It took awhile, obviously, a pretty long time, but it's good to kind of get it out of the way, and making sure our tennis brings peace instead of a war," he added.
Following his win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters, Daniil Medvedev advanced to the quarterfinals where he will face top seed Jannik Sinner.

Medvedev emerged victorious in three of their Grand Slam encounters. At the 2018 US Open, Medvedev defeated Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Their next Major showdown was in the semifinals of the 2021 Australian Open, where the former World No.1 claimed a 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Their following two Grand Slam meetings took place in the quarterfinals of the 2021 French Open, which Stefanos Tsitsipas won 6-3, 7-6(3), 7-5, and in the semifinals of the 2022 Australian Open, where Daniil Medvedev emerged victorious with a score of 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
