WATCH: Novak Djokovic makes his presence felt at Serbia Open in Belgrade; remains on the sidelines amid ATP Finals uncertainty

Novak Djokovic recently attended his compatriot Hamad Medjedovic's first-round match against Brandon Nakashima at the 2024 Serbia Open in Belgrade. The Serb’s appearance at the ATP 250 event comes amid uncertainty about his participation in the upcoming ATP Finals in Italy.

Djokovic has largely stayed off the court since his third-round defeat to Alexei Popyrin at the 2024 US Open. During the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, the Serb announced that he was no longer motivated to compete in ATP Tour events and said he would focus on Grand Slam tournaments and on representing Serbia.

Subsequently, Djokovic skipped most of the Asian swing, only competing at the Shanghai Masters, where he reached the final, falling there to Jannik Sinner, and later participated in the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh.

The 37-year-old also withdrew from the 2024 Paris Masters tournament, which has brought seven of his 40 ATP Masters 1000 titles. This withdrawal in Bercy cost Djokovic 1000 points, dropping him to 5th in the rankings with 5,210 points, with Daniil Medvedev moving up to 4th.

Recently, the former World No. 1 was seen relaxing on the beaches of the Maldives, fueling speculation that he may skip the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. Amid this uncertainty, Djokovic attended the Serbia Open during Hamad Medjedovic's first-round match against Brandon Nakashima, which Medjedovic ultimately won.

A fan shared a few pictures of Djokovic from the stands on X (formerly Twitter).

The 24-time Major champion also interacted with fans, signing autographs.

Djokovic's most notable achievement this season came at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he secured the first gold medal of his career. With this, he became the fifth player to complete a Golden Slam, joining the ranks of Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, and Serena Williams.

However, the World No. 5 has yet to win an ATP title this season. His best performances include reaching the final at Wimbledon 2024, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz, and the Shanghai Masters, where he lost to Jannik Sinner.

He also reached the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters and the Geneva Open, as well as the quarterfinals of the French Open. Still, the Serb has maintained an impressive 37-9 win-loss record.

It remains to be seen if Djokovic will compete at the ATP Finals in Turin next week.
