Serena Williams was seen leaping with joy and celebrating alongside American singer Alicia Keys after Grigor Dimitrov defeated Andrey Rublev to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open. Dimitrov's best result at the New York Slam was in 2019 when he reached the semifinals before being defeated by eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev.

Dimitrov began off his campaign at Flushing Meadows by defeating qualifier Kyrian Jacquet 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round. He then triumphed over Rinky Hijikata 6-1, 6-1, 7-6(4) and Tallon Griekspoor 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 in the second and third rounds, respectively.

The former World No.3 defeated sixth seed Andrey Rublev 6-3, 7-6(3), 1-6, 3-6, 6-3 three hours and 39 minutes in the fourth round to advance to the quarterfinals of the US Open for the second time. This victory marked his 450th tour-level win and he also improved his season record to 37 wins and 13 losses

However what caught the attention of many was the enthusiastic support from six-time US Open champion and a close friend of Grigor Dimitrov, Serena Williams, who raised her arm in celebration alongside singer Alicia Keys to cheer on Dimitrov's win over Rublev.

Grigor Dimitrov will face Frances Tiafoe in US Open 2024 QF

Grigor Dimitrov will face off against 20th seed Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open.

Tiafoe entered the New York on the back of a runner-up finish at the 2024 Cincinnati Open, where he lost to top seed Jannik Sinner 6-7(4), 2-6 in the final. He kicked off his US Open campaign by defeating compatriot Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in the first round .

The former World No.10 then advanced to the third round after his second-round opponent Alexander Shevchenko retired from their match during the third set due to an injury, with the score standing at 6-4, 6-1, 1-0 ret. in favor of the American.

In the third round, Tiafoe emerged victorious against the 13th seed Ben Shelton in a hard-fought battle of 4-6, 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3. Most recently, he defeated the 28th seed Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 7-6(3), 2-6, 3-6 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Grigor Dimitrov and Frances Tiafoe have faced each other four times on the ATP tour, with the Bulgarian winning three out of those four match-ups. Their most recent encounter was in the third round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, where Dimitrov claimed a dominant victory of 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.

The winner of the match between Dimitrov and Tiafoe will go on to face either fourth seed Alexander Zverev or 12th seed Taylor Fritz in the semifinals of the 2024 US Open.
