In the first round of the Frances Tiafoe-Aleksandar Kovacevic matchup on 26 August at the US Open 2024, an awkward incident happened with a spectator in the stands. The video of the same is now making rounds all over the internet.
While the match was underway, two men were seen seemingly offering a honey deuce cocktail to the same woman, and one of them got rejected. This brief encounter was caught on camera, which has gone viral and garnered over 12.9 million views after US Open Tennis uploaded the clip on their X handle. The caption read:
"This is cinema."
Tiafoe competed against Kovacevic in the first round of the US Open 2024 and defeated him by the scoreboard of 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 5-7.
Frances Tiafoe opens up about winning the second round at US Open 2024
After his 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win against Kovacevic, Frances Tiafoe competed against Alexander Shevchenko in the second round. He emerged victorious with a scoreboard of 6-4, 6-1, 1-0 (ret.). Shevchenko already looked tired at the end of the first set, serving a 4-5. In the first set, he lost the game because of two unforced errors and a double fault.
While playing in the second set, Shevchenko called for medical assistance for his left knee and lost the set too. After winning the second round against Alexander Shevchenko, Frances Tiafoe opened up about the match and said he felt he played a good game.
"Happy to get it done. I hate to win it that way, but overall I thought I actually played pretty well today," said Frances Tiafoe on-court.
Tiafoe is scheduled to square off in the third round against compatriot Ben Shelton on 30 August. In a recent interview, Ben Shelton, who advanced to Round 3 by trouncing Roberto Bautista Agut with a scoreboard of 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, also opened up about competing against Tiafoe in Round 3 of the US Open.
He said that he was excited to play against the American and praised their previous encounter.
"I am really looking forward to it," Shelton told the press. "We had a great battle in the quarters last year and I am sure it will be another popcorn match."
Tiafoe's most recent competition was at the Cincinnati Masters, where he reached the finals, but couldn't lift the title. He was defeated by Jannik Sinner, with total points of 7(7)-6, 6(4)-2.
