WATCH: Victoria Azarenka 'trash talks' with son Leo; proudly basks in her 'soccer mom era' supporting him from sidelines
Victoria Azarenka proudly embraced her ‘soccer mom era’. She also shared an adorable trash-talking moment with her son Leo during a car ride.
Azarenka welcomed her son, Leo, on December 19, 2016, marking the start of her cherished "mom era." After a two-year battle with her ex-boyfriend Billy McKeague, she successfully gained custody in 2018.
On Friday, December 13, the former world No. 1 shared an Instagram reel in response to a fan's comment, which reads:
“Want to see you as a soccer mom haha.”
Azarenka’s reel featured her enthusiastically cheering on Leo during a recent soccer match.
“Good save, Leo!” she shouted, encouraging him from the sidelines.
Later, during a car ride, the two shared a lighthearted moment. Azarenka playfully teased Leo, suggesting that his name might be better if it were "Lionel," like Lionel Messi.
“Do you think your name would be better if it was Lionel?” she asked.
Leo responded: “Yeah! You talk trash sometimes, Mom, so I’m talking trash.”
The Belarusian tennis star praised Leo’s skills as a goalkeeper, saying:
“I’d say your best qualities as a goalkeeper are, first, that you’re not afraid of the ball, and second, you have a pretty good natural instinct for where to move.”
Victoria Azarenka: "I want to be a good role model to my son"
Victoria Azarenka shared in an interview with Sky Sports in February 2024 that she aspired to be a role model for her son, Leo.
Reflecting on her journey, she admitted to experiencing several heart-breaking moments that, despite their difficulty, she wouldn't change, as they played a crucial role in shaping her into a better player.
"I’ve had a few heart-breaking moments on the court, and the whole world saw them. But I wouldn’t change a thing because they helped me grow," she said.
Over time, her focus expanded as she began devoting more attention not only to her sport but also to her family, especially her son.
"It made me become more aware because when as a young girl coming on the tour and I was so focused on myself. But now I'm much more aware of my surroundings, about what's going on, I pay a lot more attention to the sport and outside it. I want to be a good role model to my son,” Azarenka said.
The former World No. 1 mentioned that even though she doesn’t have much time for her son, they still manage to connect through deep conversations.
"I love that I'm able to communicate with Leo and with my nephew, who also plays tennis, when you can't talk too much, they see it and you explain it to them in those deep conversations that we have, even though he's seven,” Azarenka said.
"It's priceless to me and tennis plays such a big part of that. I'm very grateful for it,” she added.
