Zizou Bergs defeated Maximilian Marterer in the 2024 French Open second round to move on to his first Major third-round appearance. The Belgian secured a top 100 debut and led a one-of-a-kind celebration after his victory along with fans.
Bergs has been on a roll as this was his fourth consecutive win including two wins in the French Open qualifiers. He got the better of Italian Open semifinalist Alejandro Tabilo in the first round of the Paris Slam before facing Marterer in the second round on Thursday, May 30.
The pair clashed on Court 5 and Marterer got the better start as he won the first set 6-3. Bergs, who was on a quest to make it to the top 100 for the first time in his career, staged an impressive comeback and won the next three sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.
What caught the attention post-match was his impressive celebrations. Bergs conducted the Belgian fans at the venue to join in for something extraordinary. He shouted on the court in Flemish:
"Waar is da feestje?" (Where is the party?)
To which, the crowd responded:
"Hier is da feestje!" (Here is the party)

Bergs turned pro in 2018 and has been regarded as a great talent for the past few years. In 2021, he earned three ATP Challenger titles and made his top 200 debut. Bergs has been progressing ever since and made his top 150 debut in 2022 and top 125 debut in 2023. The Belgian's current live ATP ranking is 80.
In 2022, Bergs made his Major main draw debut and played in the Wimbledon Championships. He also played twice at the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024 but was ousted in the first round in all these Major appearances. At the ongoing Paris Slam, Bergs has already achieved his first two main draw wins.

Zizou Bergs will face one of the toughest tests of his tennis career as he faces Grigor Dimitrov in the 2024 French Open third round on Friday, May 31.
10th seed Dimitrov has not yet lost a set in his French Open campaign. He defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. In the second round, the Bulgarian got the better of Fabian Marozsan 6-0, 6-3, 6-4.
