Carlos Alcaraz reveals why coach Juan Carlos Ferrero cried after his China Open win: "We know what we went through"

Carlos Alcaraz's coach Juan Carlos Ferrero was in tears after the former defeated Jannik Sinner in the 2024 China Open final. Alcaraz later shared that the team had gone through some tough times recently, which may have brought out the emotions in his coach.

Alcaraz was in red-hot form a few months ago when he won the French Open, Wimbledon, and the Paris Olympics silver medal in a matter of months. However, in August, the Spaniard faced a shock upset in the second round of the US Open. Since then, he has complained about the "tight" ATP Tour schedule.

In his first event back in an ATP singles competition, Alcaraz put up some impressive displays to reach the final without losing a set. He faced World No. 1 Sinner in the final on Wednesday, October 2. The Italian broke Alcaraz's streak and won the first set but the Spaniard rallied to pull off a 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) win.

Upon victory, Alcaraz's coach Ferrero was spotted crying and celebrating with their team.

The 21-year-old was informed about it during his post-match conference and he said he did not know about it.

"That's a good thing to know, I guess (smiling). But yeah, I mean, it was a really special win for me, lifting this trophy in front of my team, part of my family. It was a great moment for me," Carlos Alcaraz said.

The World No. 3 further detailed that he and his team had gone through difficult moments in the past few weeks.

"I guess he got emotional at the end because we all know what we went through the last month or the last two months. It was a really difficult moment on the court, off the court."

Alcaraz shared that after feeling unmotivated following the American swing, his team helped him regain his joy for tennis. They had important conversations and worked hard both physically and mentally to get him back on track. He believes this is why his coach got emotional after his China Open win.

After earning his fourth title of the season, Carlos Alcaraz will move on to participate in the Shanghai Masters. The 21-year-old is seeded third at the Masters 1000 event and has received a bye in the first round.

In the second round, the Spaniard has been pitted against Juncheng Shang. The Chinese player defeated Hong Kong's Coleman Wong 6-4, 6-4 in the first round to set up an encounter against Alcaraz.

The four-time Grand Slam winner will have to recover from his enthralling battle against Jannik Sinner and play in Shanghai in less than 48 hours after his China Open final.
