Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic's US Open 2024 2R opponents
Defending champions Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic began their title defense with impressive first-round victories over Varvara Gracheva and Radu Albot respectively.
Gauff dropped just two games in her match, securing a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win. Djokovic also dominated throughout his encounter, winning 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 without much difficulty.
Gauff will face German veteran Tatjana Maria in the next round. Maria advanced with a solid 6-2, 6-3 victory over Solana Sierra. The American holds a slight edge over Maria in their head-to-head record, having won their only previous encounter in Auckland last year.
Djokovic, meanwhile, will go up against compatriot Laslo Djere, who pulled off an impressive five-set win over Jan-Lennard Struff in his opener. Djokovic leads their head-to-head 2-0, including a win in their last match at this venue last year where he came back from two sets down to win in the third round.
