What's next for US Open 2024 champion Jannik Sinner after his win in New York? All you need to know about the Italian's schedule
Jannik Sinner beat Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the final of the US Open 2024 to clinch his first title at the venue, and the second of his career. His triumph in New York meant that he swept both the hardcourt Majors this year. He's now taking a well-deserved rest after an impressive campaign.
While Sinner's contemporaries are already in action following the US Open, he will return to the tour for the China Open in Beijing, which will be held from September 23-29. He's the defending champion there and defeated Daniil Medvedev in last year's final to win the title.
Sinner's run in Beijing laid the groundwork for his incredible run this year. Following his title-winning run in the Chinese capital, he also won the title in Vienna and was instrumental in Italy's Davis Cup triumph. He finished as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals as well.
The Italian carried over that form into the new season and captured his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Aside from his two Major titles this year, he also claimed trophies in Miami, Cincinnati, Rotterdam, and Halle, and amassed a 55-5 record for the year.
Jannik Sinner will aim to capture his third Masters 1000 title of the season in Shanghai
Once he wraps up his campaign in Beijing, Jannik Sinner will remain in China for the Shanghai Masters, which will begin on September 30. He lost to Ben Shelton in the fourth round there last year. He will take a few weeks off after that and resume playing towards the end of October.
After back-to-back tournaments in China, Sinner will be back to defend his title in Vienna. Next up for him will be the season's final Masters tournament, the Paris Masters. He withdrew before his third-round match last year due to scheduling issues.
Sinner's last two tournaments for this year will be the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup. With his impressive results throughout the season, he's in a great position to conclude the year ranked as the No. 1 player for the first time in his career.
The Italian has a healthy lead over his rivals, and if he maintains his current level, then he's a lock to end the season as the top-ranked player. Unless Carlos Alcaraz or Alexander Zverev remain unbeaten the rest of the year, it's unlikely that either of them will dislodge Sinner from the summit.
