Where is Novak Djokovic playing next? All you need to know about the Paris Olympics champ's upcoming schedule
24-time Major champion Novak Djokovic will next compete at the US Open 2024 in New York, which will be held from August 26 to September 8. He has withdrawn from the upcoming Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, as confirmed by the tournament organizers on Thursday, August 8.
The Serb was the defending champion in Cincinnati and saved a championship point in the final against Carlos Alcaraz last year. He recently defeated the Spaniard in the final of the Paris Olympics to finally capture the elusive gold medal and complete the Career Super Slam.
Djokovic's victory at the Paris Olympics was his first title of any kind this season and marked his 99th career title. It would be quite a moment if he manages to claim his 100th title at the US Open, which would also be his 25th Major crown. He previously reached his first final of the year at Wimbledon but lost to Alcaraz in a rematch of last year's summit clash.
The 37-year-old then withdrew from the ongoing Canadian Open following his triumph at the Olympics. This won't be the first time participates in the US Open without contesting a warm-up event. He did the same following the conclusion of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Novak Djokovic is the defending champion at the US Open
Novak Djokovic beat Daniil Medvedev in the final of last year's US Open to claim his 24th Major title. He extended his lead among men, while simultaneously tying the all-time record held by Margaret Court. It marked his fourth title in New York, and first at the venue since 2018.
The Serb has never won back-to-back titles at the US Open. He reached the final on two occasions as part of his title defense in 2012 and 2016. He lost to Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka respectively in those two matches. He came up short in another four finals at the venue over the years, with the most recent loss being to Medvedev in the 2021 final.
Djokovic has won at least one Major title every year since 2011, barring the 2017 season during which he was severely injured, and eventually cut short. He has an 88-13 record at the US Open, and it remains the only Major where he's yet to cross the 90-win mark. However, he only needs to make it to the third round to do that, and it's quite likely he will do that this year.
