"Why don’t you ask Andy Murray how he feels" - Boris Becker seemingly unimpressed with Emma Raducanu's Wimbledon mixed doubles withdrawal

Emma Raducanu withdrew from the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon where she was set to partner Andy Murray. The match was potentially the final match of Murray's career at SW19 but Raducanu backed out, citing a "stiff wrist" — a decision which seemingly didn't sit well with Boris Becker.

Murray was also scheduled to participate in the singles event but he had to withdraw due to a recent back surgery. He played on Centre Court with his brother Jamie in the men's doubles event and received an emotional farewell on July 4, after the pair lost their first-round match to John Peers and Rinky Hijikata.

The 37-year-old was set to grace the All England Club again on July 6 in the mixed doubles event with Raducanu. However, the 2021 US Open champion had to take the 'very tough decision' of withdrawing from the event as she woke up with a stiff wrist.

"I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care," she said in a statement.

The 21-year-old has had multiple surgeries during her short career including wrist surgeries. Injury troubles have kept her out of the game for many months.

Notably, Raducanu, who had not reached the second week of a Grand Slam since her triumph at Flushing Meadows three years ago, will play in the fourth round at Wimbledon against Lulu Sun on Sunday, July 7.

German tennis legend Becker was seemingly unimpressed with Raducanu's withdrawal. He reposted a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) about the Brit's 'stiff wrist' withdrawal being 'understandable' and wrote:

"Why don’t you asked Andy or Judy , how they feel about this…"

Andy Murray's mother Judy took to X to comment on Emma Raducanu's last-minute withdrawal from the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon.

Presenter Mark Buckland wrote on X:

"Astonishing news that Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray. She’s citing soreness in her right wrist. It means Murray has played his last match at Wimbledon. Oh dear!"

Judy Murray responded to this, in a since-hidden reply:

"Yes, astonishing."

If Emma Raducanu defeats Lulu Sun, she will reach only her second Grand Slam quarterfinal and will face either Paula Badosa or Donna Vekic. As for Andy Murray, he is in Great Britain's squad for the Paris Olympics. The 37-year-old will partner Dan Evans in the men's doubles tournament.
