"Why have they dressed Carlos Alcaraz like a DHL driver?" - Fans react hilariously to Carlos Alcaraz's Team Spain kit at Paris Olympics 2024
Carlos Alcaraz has made a comfortable start to his maiden Olympic campaign at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. In addition to the flawless performance on court, the Spaniard's outfit also caught the eye of tennis fans.
Alcaraz was seeded second in the men's singles draw at the 2024 Paris Olympics and began his campaign against Hady Habib of Lebanon on July 27. Habib entered the main draw as an alternate and played above his level for most of the first set to keep Alcaraz on his toes. However, the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion was at his natural best, breaking his World No. 275-ranked opponent once to take the first set.
Alcaraz shifted gears in the second set and pierced Habib's service game three times to register a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win in just over an hour. While the young Spaniard's impressive game is always the talk of the town, his kit also caught tennis fans' attention from his opening game in Paris.
Alcaraz wore bright yellow shorts and a red polo t-shirt bearing the Spanish flag on one side and the Nike logo on the other. Many fans found the kit underwhelming for such a big occasion and did not hold back while ridiculing it. Some said the outfit belonged more in a fast food joint than a tennis court and opined that Alcaraz looked like McDonald's mascot.
"This outfit has a fast food outlet vibe!" a fan wrote.
"What in the mcdonalds is going on," another fan said on X.
"Who's his opponent, the hamburglar," a fan joked.
Fans wondered why Alcaraz wore a Nike-designed outfit when Team Spain's official kit sponsor at the Paris Olympics was Joma Sport.
"How did he get a Nike polo, I thought they have to wear official team sponsored gear," a fan tweeted.
"Red and yellow are such clown colours," a fan opined.
A fan compared the color combination to ketchup and mustard and said Alcaraz looked like a DHL driver and Winnie the Pooh.
"Ketchup and mustard," a fan wrote on X.
"I adore Carlos Alcaraz but why have they dressed him like a DHL driver?" another fan quipped.
Carlos Alcaraz to partner with Rafael Nadal to play doubles at Paris Olympics
Carlos Alcaraz's next match at the 2024 Paris Olympics will not be in the singles format but in doubles, where he will partner with his idol Rafael Nadal. The duo has created a buzz in the tennis world ever since announcing their partnership for the Paris Olympics and will begin their campaign against experienced Argentine pair and sixth seeds Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.
Nadal is playing his last-ever Olympic games and competing in the singles as well as doubles category. He is set to face Hungary's Marton Fucsovics in the singles first-round match. If Nadal, a former singles gold medalist, manages to beat Fucsovics, he will set up a mouthwatering clash against one of his long-time rivals and top seed, Novak Djokovic, in the second round.
As for Alcaraz, he will face Cameron Norrie of Great Britain or Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in the second round. The 21-year-old is the prime favorite to occupy one of the podium spots in Paris, given his recent triumph at the French Open.
