Wimbledon 2024: Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Danielle Collins among the 10 seeded players left in the women's draw heading into the second week
The women's draw of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships was rocked by upsets right from the start. Defending champion and sixth seed Marketa Vondrousova was sent packing by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first round. Top seed Iga Swiatek's 20-match winning streak was snapped by Yulia Putintseva in the third round.
Now that the first three rounds are done and dusted, only 10 seeds are left in the draw, led by second seed Coco Gauff, who's yet to lose a set. Fourth seed and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina blew Caroline Wozniacki off the court with a 6-0, 6-1 beatdown to reach the fourth round.
Seventh seed Jasmine Paolini, the runner-up at last month's French Open, fended off a challenge from Bianca Andreescu in the third round to advance further. The Italian, along with Gauff and Rybakina, are the only top-10 players left standing.
Eleventh seed Danielle Collins is enjoying an excellent swanswong as she's into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career. Twelfth seed Madison Keys is into the fourth round without losing a set, and 13th seed Jelena Ostapenko has done the same as well.
Seventeenth seed Anna Kalinskaya has reached the fourth round at the All England Club for the first time with a win over Liudmila Samsonova in the previous round. Nineteenth seed Emma Navarro's impressive year continues with a maiden fourth-round showing at the venue.
Twenty-first seed Elina Svitolina and 31st seed Barbora Krejcikova are the other two seeds left in the draw. The former toppled two-time Wimbledon finalist and 10th seed Ons Jabeur to make the fourth round.
Jessica Pegula, Zheng Qinwen & Maria Sakkari were some of the big names to bow out early from Wimbledon
Three seeded players were out of contention without even hitting a single shot. Second seed Aryna Sabalenka and 16th seed Victoria Azarenka pulled out of the tournament due to their respective injuries on the first day. Twenty-second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova followed suit as an illness brought her campaign to a premature end.
Eighth seed Zheng Qinwen, the runner-up at this year's Australian Open, was bundled out by Lulu Sun in the first round. Twenty-fourth seed Mirra Andreeva, the semifinalist at last month's French Open, failed to cross the first hurdle as well. Twenty-ninth seed Sorana Cirstea was also shown the door in the first round.
Jessica Pegula won her maiden title on grass in Berlin prior to Wimbledon. However, that didn't translate into a successful showing at SW19 as she lost in the second round. The fifth seed was upset by Wang Xinyu, though she's still alive in doubles with Gauff.
Caroline Garcia, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Linda Noskova, Katerina Siniakova, Leylah Fernandez, and Katie Boulter were the seeded players to lose in the second round. Aside from Jabeur and Swiatek, Maria Sakkari, Daria Kasatkina, Marta Kostyuk, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Dayana Yastremska were the eliminated seeds in the third round.
