Wimbledon 2024 Day 10: Men's doubles predictions ft. Neal Skupski/Michael Venus vs. Constantin Frantzen/Hendrik Jebens
The 2024 Wimbledon Championships have entered the second week. The four quarter-finals of the men's doubles have been set and are scheduled to be played on Wednesday, July 10.
The top-seeded pair and last year's runners-up up Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos will be taking on the German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz.
British hopes will lie with Henry Patten, who has partnered up with Harri Heliovaara of Finland, and defending champion Neal Stupski, who has partnered up with Michael Venus of New Zealand.
Without further ado, let's look at the quarter-final match-ups of the men's doubles on day 10 of the Championships.
#1 Neal Skupski/Michael Venus vs Constantin Frantzen/Hendrik Jebens
One of the four men's doubles quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2024 will see the ninth-seeded British-Kiwi pair Neal Skupski and Michael Venus taking on the unseeded German pair of Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens. Skupski and Venus got together before the grass season. Even though they lost in the opening round at the Stuttgart Open, the pair went on to win the Eastbourne International and the Queen's Club Championships.
They started their Wimbledon campaign with a three-setter against the Austrian pair of Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler. In the second round, they defeated the Australian pair of Rinki Hikjikata and John Peers. In the third round, Skupski and Venus faced off against the American pair of Christopher Eubanks and Evan King and won in straight sets.
Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens have had an underwhelming season in 2024. However, the German pair turned their results around in the grass season. They reached the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open (losing to Marcelo Melo and Rafael Matos) and the semi-finals of the Mallorca Championships (losing to Robert Galloway and Julian Cash).
The Germans defeated the pair of Pavel Kotov and Christian Rodriguez in the first round of Wimbledon. Their biggest victory came in the second round when they beat the Indo-Australian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden in straight sets. In the third round, they got past Llyod Glasspool and Jean-Julien Rojer.
The form of Skupsi and Venus is encouraging as they have won two grass-court titles in the build-up to Wimbledon, with Skuspski being the defending champion. That experience should give the ninth-seed pair the advantage in the match.
Pick- Neal Skuspski and Michael Venus
# 2. Marcelo Arevalo/Mate Pavic vs Harri Heliovaara/Henry Patten
The 2024 French Open champion pair Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic will take on Harri Heliovaara of Finland and British player Henry Patten. The Arevalo-Pavic team enjoyed tremendous success in 2024, winning two titles in Hong Kong and Geneva apart from their Roland Garros triumph. In the grass court season, the pair made it to the semi-finals of the Eastbourne International and the Queen's Club Championships.
The Salvadorian-Croatian pair are yet to drop a set in this year's Wimbledon. They defeated the Indo-Brit duo of Sriram Balaji and Luke Johnson in the first round. In the second round, the fourth seeds went past Romain Arneodo and Sem Verbeek. In the third round, they defeated the 16th-seeded French pair of Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul.
Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara found instant success as they won two titles on clay — the Grand Prix Hassan tournament and the Lyon Open. In the grass-court season, the Anglo-Finnish pair lost to Matthew Ebden and John Peers in the semi-finals of the Eastbourne International.
Patten and Heliovaara started their Wimbledon campaign with an upset as they defeated the fifth-seeded pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. The Anglo-Finnish pair then defeated the Spanish pair of Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar in the second round. In the third round, Patten and Heliovaara went past the Brazilian pair of Rafael Matos and Marcelo Melo.
Pavic and Arevalo are the more experienced pair, with Pavic having won the title at Wimbledon in 2021. Therefore, the pair will be the favorite going in this match.
Pick- Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic
# 3 Max Purcell/Jordan Thompson vs Maximo Gonzalez/Andres Molteni
The 15th-seeded Australian pair of Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson will take on the 11th-seeded Argentine pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2024. The Australian pair have enjoyed tremendous success in 2024 as they have won three titles — the Dallas Open, the Los Cabos Open, and the Houston Open. They also reached the semi-finals of the Libema Open in the Grass-court season.
They have not lost a set at this year's Wimbledon. They defeated the British pair of Jay Clarke and Marcus Willis. The pair went past Fabrice Martin and Matwe Middelkoop in the second round. In their third round, Purcell and Thompson comprehensively beat Andreas Mies and John-Patick Smith.
The Argentine pair of Gonzalez and Molteni have shown clay court prowess in 2024, winning the Cordoba Open and the Barcelona Open. The pair also reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, losing to eventual champions Matthew Ebden and Rohan Bopanna. However, they only played one match on grass before Wimbledon, as they crashed out in the opening round of the Mallorca Championships.
The pair started their Wimbledon campaign by dispatching the Greek pair of Stefanos and Petro Tsistspas in the opening round. In the next round, the eleventh-seeds took out the pair of Tomas Machac and Zhang Zhizhen. The third round saw the Argentine pair battle past a tough three-setter against local favorites Charles Broom and Arthur Ferry.
The Australian and Argentine pairs have shown good form in the 2024 season. However, the Australians have more experience, as Purcell won the Wimbledon doubles title in 2022.
Pick- Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson
#1 Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos vs Kevin Krawietz/Tim Putz
Top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos will be squaring off against the German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz. The pair of Granollers and Zeballlos have won one title in 2024, winning the Italian Open. But apart from that, they have reached the finals of the ASB Classic, Argentina Open, and the BNP Paribas Open. The pair also had a semi-final run at Roland Garros, losing to Arevalo and Pavic.
The top seeds have had a smooth Wimbledon journey so far. They defeated the Brazilian pair of Thiago Seyboth Wild and Thiago Monteiro in the first round. They got a walkover in the second round against Nicolas Mahut and Skander Mansouri. In the third round, Granollers and Zeballs easily won against Sebastian Baez and Dustin Brown.
Krawietz and Putz have made two finals — the Brisbane International and the Terra Wortmann Open — losing both of them. Apart from that, they made back-to-back semi-finals at the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open. The German pair also had a decent run at this year's Australian Open, where they reached the quarter-finals, losing to Bolelli and Vavassori.
The eighth-seed pair started this year's Wimbledon with a straight-set victory over Luciano Darderi and Fernando Romboli. In the second round, they came back from a set down against the Indo-French pair of Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti. The Germans then defeated the 16th-seeded American pair of Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow.
The top seeds have the current form and have the experience of being Wimbledon Finalists. That should give them the edge in this match.
Pick- Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos
