Wimbledon 2024 Draw: Where can Coco Gauff and Danielle Collins meet this year?
World No. 3 Coco Gauff and World No. 11 Danielle Collins are in London for the Wimbledon Championships, which begins on Monday, July 1, 2024. Both players have made valuable contributions throughout the season so far.
Gauff will enter Wimbledon on the back of a solid semifinal finish in the French Open, where she lost to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. Collins, meanwhile, began her campaign in Paris by cruising past Caroline Dolehide, but couldn't fend off Olga Danilovic in the second round. The Dane outfoxed her in a grueling three-set encounter.
With the tennis extravaganza moving to the grasscourt of the Wimbledon Championships, let's take a look at the draws handed out to Coco Gauff and Danielle Collins in London.
Second seed Gauff is included in the lower half of the women's draw, while 11th seed Collins has been named in the upper half. The likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Jasmine Paolini, and Maria Sakkari are a part of the lower half. On the other hand, top seed Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, and defending champion Marketa Vondrousova are a part of the top half.
Gauff will begin her campaign in London against Caroline Dolehide in the first round. 29th seed Sorana Cirstea is favorite to face her in the third round followed by two-time semifinalist Victoria Azarenka in the fourth. If the American manages to pass these hurdles, Jasmine Paolini could be her most likely opponent in the quarterfinals, followed by a tricky challenge from Maria Sakkari or Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals.
Collins, on the contrary, will kick off her campaign against Clara Tauson in the first round. Her most likely opponent in the third round is expected to be Beatriz Haddad Maia. If she battles past the Brazilian, a fourth-round encounter against defending champion Marketa Vondrousova will be on the cards.
Things only get tougher for Collins, as top seed Iga Swiatek will be waiting in the wings in the last eight. The American's most likely semifinal opponents could be two-time finalist Ons Jabeur or 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
If Gauff and Collins battle past these obstacles, they could set up a thrilling All-American bout in the finals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
Coco Gauff and Danielle Collins have never faced each other on the main tour
The head-to-head between Coco Gauff and Danielle Collins is poised at 0-0, as they've never faced each other on the main tour.
While Gauff lifted her second title at the ASB Classic in Auckland, Collins stunned the women's locker room by lifting her first WTA 1000 title in Miami. She dominated the hard-court event and followed it up with another sublime performance in Charleston to clinch back-to-back titles on tour. The veteran's 15-match win streak was ended by World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round of the Madrid Open.
While Gauff is making her fifth appearance in London, Collins will enter the Wimbledon for the sixth time in her career. Both players registered early exits last year and will be eager to make a significant impact this time around.
