The 2025 season has nearly dawned upon us but Nick Kyrgios, Iga Swiatek, and Denis Shapovalov will make one final stop at the World Tennis League before starting the new year.
Heading into the competition as part of different teams, the trio will be among the several big names taking to court over the course of the four-day sporting extravaganza.
Being hosted in Abu Dhabi, the World Tennis League will follow a round robin-cum-knockout format. Rest assured, there will be plenty of top-drawer action to follow. Here’s everything you need to know about the competition:
World Tennis League 2024 date and venue
The star-studded team competition is scheduled to commence on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
The Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, which has a seating capacity of 18,0000 will host the tournament.
World Tennis League 2024 format
All four teams — Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, and Kites — will play each other in a round-robin format. The ties will consist of four independent sets, featuring one each of men’s singles, women’s singles, men's doubles, and a women’s or mixed doubles, which will be decided by the team that wins the coin toss.
At the conclusion of the round-robin phase, the top two teams will face off in the summit clash scheduled to be held on December 22.
World Tennis League 2024 teams and players
Eagles
The team will be led by former World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who returns to action for the first time since the Billie Jean King Cup. Joining her in the competition are Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, both of whom have been top-10 players in the recent past. Alexander Shevchenko will add depth to the squad.
Falcons
The big-hitting quartet of Andrey Rublev, Elena Rybakina, Denis Shapovalov, and Caroline Garcia comprise the team. All four players had rather underwhelming seasons in 2024 and will look to end the year on a high.
Hawks
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka spearheads the side, which also features teen sensation Mirra Andreeva. Indian ace Sumit Nagal and Aussie Jordan Thompson will look after the men’s side of things for the team.
Kites
Jasmine Paolini, the breakout star of 2024 will anchor the team, which also boasts Grand Slam finalists Casper Ruud and Nick Kyrgios. Returning former World No. 1 and multiple Slam winner Simona Halep adds another dimension to the side.
