"Would make for better drama" - John Isner & Nick Kyrgios call for tennis to be made into a team sport at Olympics
Nick Kyrgios has agreed with John Isner's idea of the Olympics' tennis tournament becoming a team event. According to Isner, if this idea ever becomes a reality, it would bring much more drama and excitement to tennis at the Olympics.
The Olympics' tennis tournament consists of men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles events, but they are all separate categories.
Amid the ongoing tennis tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics, former World No. 8 Isner took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his idea, writing:
"Olympic tennis should be a team event."
A fan responded to the idea, opining that its realization would make things unique in terms of tennis fans' experiences. However, the fan also expressed concern that it would greatly reduce the chances of smaller tennis-playing nations to clinch a medal.
"Like the idea and would be unique for tennis fans to follow. Only issue is that it would greatly reduce the chances of a “smaller” tennis nation who has a top player of getting a medal because of their lack of depth," the fan replied.
Isner in turn replied to the fan, writing that there would be greater drama involved in tennis at the Olympics.
"Yes but would make for better drama," Isner commented.
Kyrgios, a former World No. 13, took notice of Isner's idea and later reposted it with a one-word response of his own.
"Definitely," Kyrgios wrote.
Nick Kyrgios recently questioned Serena Williams' ex-coach Rennae Stubb's defense of controversial Paris Olympics drag queen act
Serena Williams' former coach Rennae Stubbs recently downplayed the raging controversy surrounding the drag queen performance during the Opening Ceremony at the Paris Olympics. The performance came under fire from several people who perceived it as a mockery of Leonardo's "Last Supper", a painting of one of Christianity's most pivotal moments.
However, the organizers have maintained that it was not intended to mock the "Last Supper", and was instead a depiction of the ancient Greek Bacchanalia held in honor of Dionysus, the Greek God of pleasure, fertility, and wine. Stubbs, who coached Williams for the 2022 US Open, shared this statement and shared it on X.
Kyrgios responded to his compatriot Stubbs with a question over a performer's "testicle" that was caught on camera during the act.
