WTA rankings update after the US Open: Champion Aryna Sabalenka steady as No. 2, Jessica Pegula back to No. 3, Emma Navarro makes her top 10 debut
The conclusion of the US Open 2024 has led to a considerable shake-up in this week's WTA rankings. While Iga Swiatek remains atop the summit, Aryna Sabalenka's triumph in New York has narrowed the gap between the two.
Swiatek has 10885 points at present, while Sabalenka improved her tally to 8716 points due to her title-winning run at the US Open. Jessica Pegula, who lost to the Belarusian in the final, jumped three places to return to her career-high ranking of No. 3.
Elena Rybakina was sent packing out of the season's final Major in the second round. However, it didn't impact her standing as she remains a non-mover at No. 4 in this week's rankings. Similarly, Jasmine Paolini occupies her position from the last few weeks at No. 5, despite a fourth-round finish at the US Open.
Coco Gauff's title defense in New York came to an end in the fourth round. Consequently, she dropped down three spots to No. 6. Zheng Qinwen's quarterfinal showing at the US Open didn't affect her standing either. She logs in another week at the World No. 7.
Emma Navarro's breakthrough season saw her reach her maiden Major semifinal at the US Open. She ousted Gauff along the way as well before losing to Sabalenka. Her consistency this year has been rewarded, and she finally cracks the top 10 this week.
Navarro moved up four spots to a new career peak of No. 8. Barbora Krejcikova and Maria Sakkari each fell by a rung to be ranked No. 9 and No. 10 respectively this week.
Anna Kalinskaya and Diana Shnaider among those to reach new career highs in this week's WTA rankings
Anna Kalinskaya is knocking on the doors of the top 10 of the WTA rankings. She made the third round of the US Open, and it was enough to propel her to a new career high of No. 14. Her compatriot, Diana Shnaider, went a round further than her, and climbed a couple of spots to No. 16, a new career milestone for her as well.
Even though Lulu Sun crashed out in the first round of the US Open, she moved up by two places to make her top 40 debut at No. 39. Elina Avanesyan is the latest entrant into the top 50 at No. 50, while Ashlyn Kreuger's third-round finish in New York helped her jump eight spots to a new career peak of No. 51.
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro backed up her Wimbledon run with a third-round finish at the US Open, and rose by 14 spots to No. 60. Erika Andreeva (No. 68), Harriet Dart (No. 70), and Renata Zarazua (No. 85) are other players to reach new career highs.
