"You have 5 people just to wipe your bum" - Andy Murray & Liam Broady exchange hilarious banter after latter complains about Atlanta Open facilities
British tennis star Liam Broady complained about the arrangements at the Atlanta Open. He received a response from compatriot Andy Murray and the pair exchanged hilarious banter.
Following a first-round exit at Wimbledon, Broady, who is not part of the Great Britain Olympics team, has traveled to the USA to begin his North American hardcourt swing. He is currently playing the qualifiers at the Atlanta Open. However, his experience before the first match was underwhelming.
Broady took to X to complain about the arrangements at the ATP 250 event. His match was supposed to start at 10 am so he had to begin his warm-up by 8:30 am. However, breakfast was scheduled to begin by 9.
"First match at 10am today so have to warm up at 8:30. Breakfast doesn’t open till 9am? Walked into player area and we’ve got… bagels. Really good for a high standard of tennis and tennis tournament in Atlanta," he wrote on X.
Broady's former doubles partner Andy Murray responded to the tweet which led to a small banter between the compatriots.
"Hope you are ok mate. That sounds terrible. Surprised you hadn’t checked the breakfast situation ahead of time like most professionals would have done," Andy Murray wrote.
"You have five people just to wipe your bum for you man you’ve never checked a situation ahead of time in your life we are not the same," Broady responded.
Broady faced a tough challenge against Chinese player Shang Juncheng in the qualifier at the Atlanta Open on July 20.
Andy Murray once called Liam Broady a 'walking contradiction'
At this year's Australian Open, Mirra Andreeva was a 16-year-old sensation. She decimated sixth seed Ons Jabeur 6-0, 6-2, and faced Diane Parry in the third round. Against the Frenchwoman, Andreeva was 5-1 down in the decider but went on to win the match. Andy Murray took X to express his views on the Russian.
"Andreeva down 5-1 in third. Commentator “she really needs to work on mental side of her game.. she’s too hard on herself when she’s losing” 30 minutes later 7-6 Andreeva wins," he wrote.
"Maybe the reason she turned the match round is because of her mental strength. Maybe she turned the match around because she is hard on herself and demands more of herself when she’s losing/playing badly? Winner," he added.
Murray's compatriot Broady responded to the tweet to correct it as he felt 'mental strength' was an incorrect phrase.
"Mental strength is the wrong phrase. To come from 5-1 down in the third in a slam at her age is great mental strength. But perhaps if she had greater mental composure she wouldn’t have gone 5-1 down in the third in the first place?" Broady wrote.
In response, Murray dissected Broady's tweet and called him a 'walking contradiction'.
"I don’t understand your tweet. You said mental strength is the wrong phrase and then in the next sentence say coming from 5-1 down is great mental strength. Liam Broady the walking contradiction. 🤡"
Andreeva, however, was extremely happy that Murray tweeted about her match. She even claimed that she would frame the tweet.
