Katie Boulter vs Rebecca Marino preview

The second round of the 2024 Nottingham Open will see an encounter between third-seed Katie Boulter of Great Britain and Rebecca Marino of Canada.

Boulter has had a pretty ordinary clay-court season so far, getting knocked out in the first round of the Madrid Open, Italian Open and French Open.

However, the 27-year-old Brit beat her compatriot Harriet Dart in three sets in a keenly contested match in the first round at the Rothesay Nottingham Open.

On the other hand, Marino beat Viktorija Golubic in the first round in straight sets. Marino has primarily played at ITF events this year and was not able to qualify for the main draw of the French Open. Hence, Boulter will start as the favorite in the match on Wednesday.

Katie Boulter vs Rebecca Marino prediction

Boulter is probably at the peak of her powers at the moment, while Marino, 33, is one of the veteran players on the WTA tour. Hence, the Brit should be in a better position to win the match on Wednesday.

She is also the defending champion in Nottingham and should enjoy the conditions on her home soil. Marino, meanwhile, is ranked 157th in the world at the moment and does not feature in too many WTA tournaments these days. Boulter is a decidedly more clinical player of the two and will probably be in better physical shape than her opponent, too.

Hence, Marino will have to exceed herself to cause an upset in the second-round match in Nottingham.

Prediction: Boulter to win in straight sets.
