Novak Djokovic crushes Richard Gasquet to reach the Wimbledon final
Novak Djokovic beat Richard Gasquet 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4 to move into his second consecutive Wimbledon final.
Djokovic got the early advantage in the first set when he broke Gasquet’s serve in the second game after a lengthy rally. Gasquet struck right back breaking Djokovic in the third game with a brilliant backhand winner.
The Frenchman played exceptional tennis in the first set and at one point had 0 unforced errors on his racket. He forced a tie-break in the opener, but Djokovic got two mini-breaks and won the opening set when Gasquet’s forehand sailed long on set point.
Second set got off to a worst possbile start for Gasquet. The No. 21 seed lost his serve in the first game when he netted his forehand after a long rally. Djokovic had trouble on his left shoulder, but didn’t call for a medical time-out. It was on serve until the ninth game when Djokovic started to serve for the second set.
After a double fault, the Serb hit couple of aces before winning another long rally to go two sets up.
The World No. 1 broke Gasquet’s serve in the third game when the Frenchman’s backhand went long. It seemed like an impossible task for Gasquet from here to reach his maiden Grand Slam final. After saving two match points in the ninth game, Gasquet forced Djokovic to serve out the match.
Djokovic held his serve to love to reach another Wimbledon final. He awaits the winner of the match between Roger Federer and Andy Murray.
