Novak Djokovic is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players to ever play the sport. He held the No. 1 position in men’s singles for a total of 428 weeks, which is a record and is ranked No. 5 as of March 2025. He is also the only male player to have won all nine Masters 1000 Tournaments, twice. Djokovic is known for his aggressive baseline game, his powerful serve, and his excellent return of serve. He represented Serbia in multiple team competitions and won a bronze medal in singles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics along with the 2010 Davis Cup. Djokovic ended the 2024 season on top note by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Paris Olympics and winning a gold medal for his country, Serbia. He announced a coaching partnership with his longest rival, Andy Murray, for the 2025 season. Djokovic started his 2025 season to claim his 11th Australian Open and reached the semifinal by defeating Alcaraz in the quarterfinal by 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. He lost to Alexander Zverev in the semifinal, extending his semifinal appearance record to 50. Djokovic reached the final after defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals of the 2025 Miami Open. He will face Jakub Mensik in the final.

He also finished as the runner-up on 13 occasions. At the 2024 Australian Open, Djokovic lost to Jannik Sinner in the semifinal. This happened to be his first loss at the tournament since 2018, and the first time he lost after the quarterfinal stage at Melbourne Park. He finished the quarterfinal at the 2024 French Open before withdrawing after suffering a right knee injury. Novak Djokovic won his first Grand Slam at the 2008 Australian Open. At age 20, he disrupted Roger Federer's and Rafael Nadal's streak of 11 consecutive majors to win his first major title at the 2008 Australian Open by defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(7-2) in the finals.
