Novak Djokovic pulls out of Davis Cup tie against India
World number one Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Davis Cup World Group Play-off tie against hosts India to be held at Bangalore’s KSLTA Stadium from September 12–14, according to a Serbian website.
The website quoted Serbian non-playing captain Bogdan Obradovic as saying, “Our best player Novak Djokovic is definitely not coming to India. The biggest reason is fatigue.”
Obradovic confirmed this here on Monday morning and stated that apart from being tired and being hit by fatigue, the World No. 1 sought to spend time with his wife Jelena who is expecting their first child. Bangalore’s high humidity and altitude were also factors that Obradovic mentioned for Djokovic’s pulling out.
An official statement is expected later today.
The reigning Wimbledon champion was shocked by Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the semifinal of the US Open on Saturday and is likely to be replaced by World No. 179 Ilija Bozoljac. Serbia’s doubles specialist Nenad Zimonjic is expected to reach Bangalore on Monday.
