Norway's Casper Ruud will take on Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics 2024.
Ruud beat Japan's Taro Daniel 7-5, 6-1 in the first round, and then rallied from a set down to defeat Italy's Andrea Vavassori 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. He was up against Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo in the third round.
Cerundolo was on a six-match winning streak having won the Croatia Open title a week before the Olympics, and he also beat the Norwegian the last time they met. However, Ruud was in control from the start this time, and a single break of serve in each set helped him secure a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Auger-Aliassime secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory over USA's Marcos Giron to begin his campaign here. He then handed Germany's Maximilian Marterer a 6-0, 6-1 beatdown to set up a third-round showdown against Daniil Medvedev.
Auger-Aliassime had previously lost all seven of his encounters against the Russian. But he knew that he had a fighting chance on clay, and made the most of it.
The two remained steady on serve for most of the first set until Auger-Aliassime upped his level to bag the last three games of the set to take it. He had a couple of break point chances to take the lead in the second set but couldn't convert. He still got the job done in the tie-break to secure a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win.

Auger-Aliassime finally notched up his first win over Medvedev to make the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics. He didn't face a single break point during the match, won 88 percent of his first serve points, and struck 26 winners in comparison to 18 unforced errors.
Ruud got the better of an in-form Cerundolo to make the last eight. He won 79 percent of points on the back of his first serve and hit 22 winners and 24 unforced errors.
While Ruud has a slim lead in his rivalry against Auger-Aliassime, they are tied 1-1 on clay, with the latter beating him in Madrid a few months ago. However, the Norwegian is the better player on clay in this match-up.
Ruud has also performed quite well at Roland Garros, which is also the venue for tennis at the Olympics. Auger-Aliassime is in good form but the Norwegian's track record makes him the favorite to win this duel.
