Daniil Medvedev vs Felix Auger-Aliassime preview
Daniil Medvedev will take on Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round of the Paris Olympics 2024.
Medvedev commenced his run at the Paris Olympics with a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 win over Australia's Rinky Hijikata. He next took on Sebastian Ofner from Austria, and played another solid match. The former World No. 1 broke his opponent's serve twice in each set to secure a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
However, Medvedev's doubles campaign came to an end in the first round. He teamed up with Roman Safiullin in men's doubles, and the duo went down 6-4, 6-4 to Kevin Kraweitz and Tim Putz. He also joined forces with Mirra Andreeva in mixed doubles, and they were beaten 6-3, 6-2 by Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.
Auger-Aliassime defeated American Marcos Giron 6-1, 6-4 to reach the second round, where Germany's Maximilian Marterer awaited him. The Canadian dropped only one game in the encounter as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Auger-Aliassime's men's doubles campaign concluded in the first round alongside Milos Raonic, losing to Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in straight sets. He did make a winning start to his mixed doubles quest with Gabriela Dabrowski, beating the British duo of Joe Salisbury and Heather Watson 7-5, 4-6, 10-3.

Daniil Medvedev vs Felix Auger-Aliassime prediction
Both players have looked quite impressive this week and have dropped a total of 13 games between them across their first two matches. They're familiar rivals, having played against each other seven times so far, with Auger-Aliassime getting the short end of the stick on all occasions.
Medvedev has won five of their seven meetings in straight sets. Auger-Aliassime came quite close to beating him at the Australian Open a couple of years ago. It wasn't meant to be as the Russian dug deep and saved a match point to prevail in five sets.
But all of their prior encounters were on hardcourts, a surface on which Medvedev excels. He's considerably more vulnerable on clay, so this will be Auger-Aliassime's best chance to end his losing skid against his older rival.
However, the Canadian's inconsistency throughout the season doesn't inspire confidence in him. If he's able to channel his best, he certainly has a shot, or else Medvedev is likely to further extend his winning record in this rivalry.
Pick: Daniil Medvedev to win in three sets.
