Tennis at Paris Olympics 2024 Day 2: Women's singles predictions ft. Caroline Wozniacki vs Mayar Sherif, Barbora Krejcikova vs Sara Sorribes Tormo
Day 2 of the tennis tournament at Paris Olympics 2024 will see the remainder of the first-round matches take place. A lot of the previous day's rescheduled matches will also be played.
In the women's singles event, second seed Coco Gauff will be in action, as she takes on Ajla Tomljanovic while Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova will lock horns with Sara Sorribes Tormo.
The likes of Maria Sakkari and Danielle Collins will also be in action. On that note, let's take a look at the predictions for some of the women's singles matches on Day 2 of the tennis tournament at the Paris Olympics.
#1. Caroline Wozniacki vs Mayar Sherif
Former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki will face Mayar Sherif in the first round of the Paris Olympics. It will be the very first meeting between the two.
Wozniacki last appeared at Wimbledon, where she reached the third round before being thrashed by Elena Rybakina. Sherif last competed in a WTA 125k event in France, where she reached the final before losing to Lucia Bronzetti.
Wozniacki may not be the same player she once was but she is still capable of producing some good tennis. The Dane should just about manage to make it through to the second round of the Paris Olympics.
Predicted Winner: Caroline Wozniacki
#2. Barbora Krejcikova vs Sara Sorribes Tormo
Wimbledon champion and ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova will face Sara Sorribes Tormo in the opening round of the Paris Olympics. It will be the third meeting between the two, with the Czech winning both of their previous encounters.
Krejcikova is playing in her first singles event since her memorable Wimbledon triumph while Sorribes Tormo last competed in the Hungarian Grand Prix, where she reached the second round before losing to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.
The Czech has 14 wins out of 23 matches so far in 2024 while the Spaniard has won just 11 out of 30 fixtures.
Krejcikova will enter the match as the overwhelming favorite to win and should do so without much trouble.
Predicted Winner: Barbora Krejcikova.
#3. Maria Sakkari vs Danka Kovinic
Seventh seed Maria Sakkari will take on Danka Kovinic in the first round of the Paris Olympics. It will be the fifth meeting between the two, with their head-to-head currently tied at 2-2.
Sakkari last competed at Wimbledon where she reached the third round while Kovinic will play her first match since the 2023 US Open.
While the Greek has won 21 out of 34 matches so far this season, the Montenigrin is yet to play a fixture. Sakkari's relatively better run of form combined with Kovinic's lack of game time should see the former come out on top and reach the second round of the Paris Olympics.
Predicted Winner: Maria Sakkari
