Petra Kvitova diagnosed with mononucleosis
Petra Kvitova, two-time Wimbledon champion, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with mononucleosis - a viral condition which can lead to prolonged fatigue, swollen glands, fever and body aches .The Czech tennis player, currently ranked No. 4 in the world by the WTA, said at a press conference that she received the diagnosis just over a week ago.
"[After Wimbledon] I spent a few days off in Monaco as a vacation and then I was trying to practice a little bit," Kvitova told WTA Tennis. "Unfortunately I found out I was diagnosed with mono. So it's going to be a little tougher for me to practice in a good way."
Kvitova, who has had a tough year with fitness, also had to skip the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami earlier this year due to fatigue. She is also going through a forgettable year in the Grand Slams as she failed to make the second week at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Her only 2 tournament victories this have come in Sydney and Madrid.
The Czech lost to Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of Rogers Cup.
