Purav Raja and Divij Sharan through to Wimbledon main draw
In a huge boost to Indian tennis, India’s Purav Raja and Divij Sharan have qualified for the Wimbledon doubles main draw. The Indians received a walk over in the final round of qualifiers. They were scheduled to play Austrian duo Andreas Haider Maurer and Czech Jiri Vesely in the final qualification match.
After the disappointment of Devvarman bowing out of the qualifiers, this would provide a significant lift to Indian tennis with the young doubles team being able to make it to the main draw. As a result, there would be five Indian players in the Wimbledon main draw. Divij Sharan, ranked 91, and Purav Raja, ranked 118, have had a good run of form on grass, reaching the finals in Nottingham and now qualifying for the main draw.
