Rafael Nadal wins 2015 Hamburg Open after beating Fabio Fognini in straight sets
World No.10 and top seed Rafael Nadal defeated Fabio Fognini of Italy in straight sets 7-5 7-5 in the finals of Hamburg Open on Sunday to clinch his 47th Clay court title.
The opening set saw the Spaniard get 77% of his first serves in and also win 61% of his first service points as compared to Fognini’s 58% and 42% of his second serve points as compared to his opponent’s 33.
The Spaniard also had fewer unforced errors and converted 3 out of his 8 break point opportunities to take the opening set 7-5.
The second set saw Nadal dominate proceedings from the outset, racing away to a 3-1 lead but Fognini refused to back down, breaking Nadal to go 4-3 up and then served for the set at 5-4 up when a heated exchange between the two led to a slight delay in proceedings. That incident seemed to have fired the 14-time Grand Slam champion up, as he came back to win the next 2 games to go 6-5 up and then sealed the deal by breaking Fognini’s serve to win in straight sets and win his maiden Hamburg Open title in 7 years.
