Rio Olympics 2016: Leander Paes set to partner Rohan Bopanna in Men's Doubles
The All India Tennis Association(AITA) has finally announced the tennis team that will represent India at the Rio Olympics 2016. After much uncertainty encircling the Men’s Doubles pair in particular, AITA’s latest decision is certain to let the whole nation heave a sigh of relief at this hour.
The Indian brigade to chase Olympic glory at Rio 2016 is comprised of the quartet of Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna, Sania Mirza and Prarthana Thombare. Since Leander didn’t have a ticket for himself, it is evident that he would partner a previously reluctant Rohan in the Men’s Doubles event for his 7th consecutive Olympic appearance.
In Mixed Doubles, it’s Rohan and Sania Mirza together whereas Prarthana Thombare has been named to join World No. 1 Sania in the Women’s Doubles category.
Overall, the most sensible verdict seems to have taken place since veteran Leander is in tremendous form at present, coming off a brilliant French open victory earlier this month and the next alternative was 125th ranked Saketh Myneni who doesn’t appear as India’s best bet for a stage as big as the Olympics.
With AITA’s ruling out now, may this Indian tennis team shine at Rio 2016.
