Roger Federer pulls out of the Rotterdam Open and the Dubai Open

17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has decided to pull out of the Rotterdam Open and Dubai Open, slated to start on the 8th of February and 22nd of February respectively.

Stating the reasons behind his withdrawal on the Facebook page, the 34-year-old said that he had undergone anthroscopic surgery on his knee and revealed that he had hurt his knee, a day after losing to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the 2016 Australian Open.

The Swiss ace is a two-time winner of the Rotterdam Cup. He won his 1st title in 2005 when he beat his present coach Ivan Ljubicic in three sets to secure the title and then won his second crown in 2012, where he defeated Juan Martin Del Potro in the final.

As for the Dubai Open, there is no one in the history of the competition that has won more titles than Federer. He has won the competition on 7 occasions, that includes three straight crowns from 2003 to 2005 and two consecutive triumphs in 2014 and 2015. The other two victories came in 2007 and 2012.

Interestingly, towards the end of last year, Federer had revealed that he wouldnt compete in any of the clay court competitions that are lined-up in the lead-up to the French Open and would play just at Roland Garros.
