Roger Federer storms into the fourth round
After playing two tough matches in the first two rounds, the third round had to be a stunner to proclaim that the king of grass is back.
Federer who is seeded at the top spot for the tournament stormed into the fourth round after beating Arnauld Clement from France 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, in just 1 hour and 35 mintues. Federer was at no point in any trouble and was shown the clear door of victory after winning the first two sets convincingly.
Federer is to meet 16th seed Jurgen Melzer from Austria in the fourth round. The semi-finalist from Roland Garros is definitely looking good and will pose a threat to the defending champion.
On the other hand former world number 1 and former Wimbledon champion, 15thseed Lleyton Hewitt from Australia defeated French protégé and 21st seed Gael Monfils in straight three sets; 6-3, 7-6, 6-4, after 2 hours and 9 minutes on court.
The American 5th seed and Runner Up last year, Andy Roddick defeated 29thseed German Philipp Kohlschreiber in four sets; 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. The American managed to break the serve of the German at all important and crucial moments to take home the match and move into the fourth round.
The Serbian world number 3 too progressed into the fourth round without any troubles defeating 23rd seed Spanish player Albert Montanes 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, in just 1 hour and 42 minutes. After a tough first round match the world number 3 is looking in good shape winning his last two matches in three straight sets.
In the women’s category, it is the old ladies that are keeping the competition alive and thrilling. Justin Henin progressed into the fourth round after defeating Russian world number 12 Nadia Petrova in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. In the hunt to win the only title that remains away from her, Henin is definitely giving her juniors something to think about. Kim Clijsters: world number 8 beat Russian 27th seed Maria Kirilenko in straight sets too 6-3, 6-3. World number 2 Venus Williams won her 3rd round match against Russian Alisa Kleybanova (26); 6-4, 6-2.
World number 4 Serbian Jelena Jankovic thrashed her opponent in the third round to win 6-0, 6-3 against 28th seed Alona Bondarenko. French 11th seed Marian Bartoli won her match against Greta Arn from Hungary; 6-3, 6-4.
With a lot more rounds and alot more matches alot can change.
