Roger Federer to play in India for International Premier Tennis League
The news that will bring a smile on the face of every tennis fan in the country has surfaced – Roger Federer has confirmed that he will participate in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) in December 2014. The 17-time Grand Slam champion replaces Rafael Nadal for the Indian Aces team. Nadal, unfortunately had to withdraw citing health reasons.
A full host of tennis superstars will be present in the country, battling it out in the inaugural edition of the IPTL. Federer will join ranks with his idol Pete Sampras, French players Gael Monfils and Fabrice Santoro, Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic and Indian sensations Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and women’s World No. 1 Serena Williams will also be present, playing for U.A.E. Falcons and Singapore Lions respectively. Other top ranked players include Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard and Lleyton Hewitt. Legends Andre Agassi and Patrick Rafter will also feature in the league.
The league will be played across four locations. Philippines will kick things off, followed by Singapore, India and U.A.E. The India leg will be held from 6th to 8th December 2014 in Delhi.
