Roger Federer - the Shanghai Superhero
The first ATP 1000 Masters event in Asia this year – the Shanghai Masters – has already seen plenty of action with several top seeds making early exit early and fans enjoying outrageous shots by the players. But Roger Federer still remains in the draw, and the fans in Shanghai are once again proving that he is easily the most popular player on the tour!
During his quarterfinal match against Julien Benneteau, some fans were seen holding posters of Federer in superhero costumes.
"It's hilarious, these photoshops," said Federer. "I smile as well. Maybe I don't show it as much, but inside I'm laughing. I'm crying in laughter. I think it's very funny, very entertaining and very creative."
The 17-time Grand Slam champion also liked the one where he is looking strong. “When I look nice and strong. Superman looked great."
Meanwhile, Federer’s opponent in the semifinals in Shanghai, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, is signing on the cameras in Chinese. "The Chinese fans here are very kind to me and they teach me new characters," said Djokovic.
The two-time defending champion said he is still learning the language. The Serb spoke in Chinese after winning the title in Beijing earlier this month.
“I know how to write [my] nickname, love and fun. A couple of nice characters," added Djokovic. "Let's say five. Five out of five thousand [characters] is still not too much, but I keep working on that."
