Roger Federer to play Davis Cup quarterfinal for Switzerland against Kazakhstan

Federer teamed up with Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka to help Switzerland ease past Serbia

The Switzerland Davis Cup team received a huge boost for their quarter-final clash against Kazakhstan in April when Swiss maestro Roger Federer tweeted that he will be playing the tie.

The Davis Cup remains one of the very few major titles in tennis that is not part of Federer’s grand trophy haul which includes 17 Grand Slam singles titles.

Federer teamed up with the new Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka to give Switzerland a win over last year’s finalists Serbia in the World Group first round tie in Serbia. Federer won his singles match fairly comfortably against Ilija Bozoljac.

The Kazakhstan team made it to the quarters with a hard fought 3-2 win against Belgium in Round 1. The Kazakh team saw World No.87 Andrey Golubev win both his singles matches while World No.57 Mikhail Kukushkin won one of his singles matches.

With Federer and Wawrinka around, Switzerland have enough firepower in their armory to overcome Kazakhstan in the tie scheduled to take place in Switzerland from April 4-6.
