Rohan Bopanna and Roger-Vasselin out of Cincinnati Masters

Cincinnati (Ohio), Aug 18 (IANS) India’s Rohan Bopanna and his French partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin were knocked out of the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis by Spanish duo Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez in the semi-finals here.

The eighth-seeded Indo-French combination failed to get any of the five break points and went down 5-7, 2-6 to Spanish tandem here Saturday. The Spaniards are seeking their second Masters 1000 title, having won in Rome last year.

Bopanna and Roger-Vasselin had three chances in the first set and two in the second.

The Spanish side will now face top seeded American twins Mike and Bob Bryan in Sunday’s final. The American twins saved a match point to advance to their 12th doubles final of the year with a 4-6 7-6(6) 10-6 win over Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky.

The top-ranked American duo and owners of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles at nine different events, saved one match point in the second set tie-break. They are closing in on their fourth Cincinnati crown, having won in 2003, ’08 and ’11, and fourth Masters 1000 title of the year, with wins in Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome.
